Our Mission is to Develop Healthy, Sustainable Communities in the Bay Area Promoting People, Culture and Businesses
Thinking “people first” our vision is Familyhood first.
Familyhood defines schools as the center of the communities development and utilizes the school’s governance as the center of the communities development.
Familyhood is driven by two mottoes:
1) Mo’ Better Food – meaning- “every school should have a garden, a farmers market and a grocery store.
2) Friends of school – meaning- “every school should have a functioning Student Government Association, Parent Teacher Association and Alumni Association.”
In essence, Familyhood promotes these organizations in coalition planning and operating these school-based, food-related enterprises.
Familyhood’s main goal is to produce Alumni and a strong Alumni Association that’s main function is to mentor the Student Government Association.
This “Pipeline” between the Student Government Association and its Alumni Association is what we call The Familyhood Pipeline.
“The more Alumni we produce, the more developed our community becomes”… is the philosophy of Familyhood.
Familyhood is a 20 year vision in most communities.
The “do now” strategy to advance towards Familyhood is 1st Saturdays.
1st Saturdays is the official volunteer / recruitment day at schools.

Familyhood is a systemic, inter-generational approach of utilizing school-based organizations and their location as the center of the communities development.
Familyhood is driven by two motto’s: 1) Every school should have a functioning Student Government Association, Parent Teacher Association and Alumni Association. 2) Every school should have a garden, a farmers market and a grocery store.
In short, Familyhood promotes a coalition between Motto 1 organizations centered around planning and operating the food related, school-based enterprises of Motto 2
As the schools Familyhood grows in membership (numbers), the school has more support to grow its garden, farmers market, and grocery store).
We see Familyhood as a 20-year vision because students who start Familyhood earlier, meaning Familyhood is in affect at each of the grade levels, when they graduate from high school, they will be Alumni of their Elementary, Middle and High school in their community.
With Familyhood in affect in a community, the student who starts Familyhood in Elementary school should have experienced mentorship from Alumni in all the grade levels and through their support become more experienced in student leadership from all the years in school being in student government.
